Artists Showcase Talents for Graduation Publications

Several student artists at Cocalico High School entered their drawings into the school’s annual end-of-year events program cover competition. The winning designers were (from l to r): Jessica Fuller - Commencement program; Madison Wiley - Baccalaureate program; and Kendall Marte - Senior Awards program. Congratulations to these fine artists!

Reamstown Students Share Their Thoughts on Freedom

Congratulations to the winners of Reamstown Elementary’s Cost of My Freedom Essay Contest, sponsored by the Reamstown Federation of Churches. All four students received a cash prize, and the two overall winners read their essays at the Memorial Day Service on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Award winners included (from l to r): Noah Martin (honorable mention), Aaron Wilczek (winner); Joey McGowan (honorable mention); and Jeremy Ouilikon (winner).

Commencement Speakers Named

Graduation Day is fast approaching! Speakers have been named for the 2018 Commencement ceremony. They include: G. Daniel Main, Senior Class President; Sophia R. Benson; Katharine M. Carrasco; Thomas M. Denlinger; Tania L. Turner; and Jamie E. Zamrin. Congratulations to these outstanding seniors!

National Junior Honor Society

Congratulations to the newest inductees into the National Junior Honor Society at Cocalico Middle School! These outstanding students participated in the induction ceremony on Wednesday, May 16.

Kaleigh Betz Named NEO Graphics Competition Winner

Congratulations to Kaleigh Betz, a Cocalico High School junior, for winning the “Best of Category” award in the prestigious NEO Graphics regional print competition. Kaleigh attends the Brownstown CTC, part time in the Visual Cluster Program. For the contest, Kaleigh produced an advanced, twisted, accordion-folded brochure entitled, “Is Digital Really Greener?” She plans to attend the Brownstown CTC full time during the 2018-19 school year and will study Commercial Art.

CHS Outstanding Senior Athletes

Congratulations to Jacob Musselman and Jamie Zamrin for being named outstanding male and female senior athletes for the 2017-2018 school year at the Senior Athletic Social on Wednesday, May 16! Their accomplishments, both on and off the field, have been tremendous. Best of luck to them in their future endeavors!

CHS Named One of the Best High Schools

Cocalico High School was recently named a top high school in the country according to the U.S. News & World Reports annual Best High Schools list. Cocalico is ranked 5th in the county, 77th in the state, and 2,099th in the nation, and this ranking earned them a Silver Medal. 

Rankings are based on college readiness. Test scores, graduation rates, and AP courses were just a few of the factors that were examined. Congratulations to the staff and students at Cocalico High School for this amazing achievement.

REAL Life Financial Literacy Forum at CHS

This past Friday, 11th graders at Cocalico High School participated in Junior Achievement's REAL Life Financial Literacy Forum. REAL Life utilized business volunteers who worked with students throughout the day. Their day was divided into two segments: Budget Builder and financial games. Budget Builder challenged students to balance a monthly budget based on a fictitious life scenario. Community volunteers were financial advisors for the students. The other half of the day, students rotated through a series of hands-on financial games to include Price is Wrong, Insurance Jeopardy, The Financial Games, and The Real Life Game. These hands-on activities were intended to spark conversations about important financial decisions students will make in the near future.

Senior Headed to SkillsUSA National Competition

Joseph Lee, a Cocalico High School Senior who attends the Brownstown Career & Technology Center (CTC), was recently crowned winner of the Extemporaneous Speaking event in the SkillsUSA state competition. Joseph, who is studying commercial art at the CTC, will now head to Louisville, Kentucky to take place in the National SkillsUSA Competition being held June 25-30, 2018. Best of luck, Joseph!

CHS Students Ready for Business

Recently, Cocalico High School’s Economics and the Stock Market class, instructed by Mr. Joshua Shipton, finished 4th place in a stock market game sponsored by the Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy. There were over 700 students throughout the state who participated in this 8-week competition in which they were given fictitious amounts of money to invest. Cocalico was 4th in the school competition. Top individual finishers included (pictured clockwise from top left): Noah Bennetch (36th), Hunter Garman (7th), Andrew Nessinger (38th), Nathaniel Martin (86th), Tyler Cloud (32nd), and Hunter Zeiset (65th).
